Origin Story

Joshua brown was born in Virginia, but grew up in St. Louis, MO. He had dogs all his life growing up and was touched by their loyalty and unconditional love.

Josh and Inca

Joshua’s first experience in working with animals came when he joined the United States Army in September of 2000. His first tour in Iraq is where he witnessed, with awe, the effectiveness and necessity of explosive detection working dog teams in combat operations. Soon after, Josh returned to his base in Fort Benning, GA and joined the US Army’s Military Police Canine Detachment. After rigorous training, he deployed back to Iraq as an explosives detection dog handler. He and his dog participated in numerous combat missions that degraded the enemy’s ability to procure and use explosives in IEDs.

After finishing 9 years in the Army, and receiving his honorable discharge, he successfully completed training at the Triple Crown Dog Training Academy (now Starmark Academy), in Hutto, Tx. Upon graduating as a certified canine trainer and behavior specialist, he went on to complete an apprenticeship at Canine Obedience Unlimited.

Josh struck out on his own in 2009, starting his business, K9 Catalyst Dog Training. Since that time, Josh has helped hundreds of families to realize their training goals.

Josh is happily married and a very proud father to his son. His family also includes two incredible canine companions, a five year old pompski and a nine year old german shepherd named Cerberus. If not for being at the dog park with their canine companions, he and his wife would have never met. Josh continues to do in home dog training and counter conditioning of undesirable behaviors.
